Uswnt Vs Mexico July 2024

USWNT Falls to Mexico in Olympic Tuneup

Defending champions seek rebound in penultimate match

The United States Women's National Soccer Team (USWNT), fresh off a 3-0 victory over Canada, suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Mexico in their penultimate friendly before the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The match took place at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, on June 13, 2024.

Uninspiring Performance

The USWNT, seeking to avenge their loss to Mexico in the CONCACAF Women's Championship, struggled to find their rhythm throughout the match. Despite dominating possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities, the Americans failed to capitalize on their chances. Mexico, on the other hand, played a disciplined and organized defense, making the USWNT work hard for every inch of space.

Costly Errors

The USWNT's lack of precision and sloppy passing played a significant role in Mexico's victory. Several unforced errors allowed the Mexican side to regain possession and launch dangerous counterattacks. The Americans also failed to contain Mexico's star forward, Kiana Palacios, who played an instrumental role in Mexico's lone goal in the 64th minute.

Call for Improvement

The loss to Mexico has raised concerns about the USWNT's readiness for the upcoming Olympics. With only one more friendly match remaining before the Games, the Americans will need to make significant improvements in their overall play. The team will face Japan in their final tuneup on June 24th before departing for Paris on July 2nd.
