Honolulu Mayor Expresses Condolences

Honolulu, HI - The Honolulu Ocean Safety Department and the North Shore community are mourning the loss of Tamayo Perry, an eight-year veteran lifeguard who died in a tragic shark attack while surfing off the coast of Oahu on June 24, 2024.

Kurt Lager, acting chief of the Ocean Safety Department, described Perry as "a lifeguard loved by all." Mayor Rick Blangiardi called Perry's death "a tragic loss" and lauded him as "a legendary waterman and highly respected member of the community."

Perry is survived by his wife. His infectious personality and love for others will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.
